, Tracing Paper
.
Objective:
The Objective of this lesson is to learn about the elements of art using texture and the principles of art using focal point while exploring and using harmonious colours.
First we examined elements of design in advertisements. I then showed the students how they could use textures in areas of a work before adding colour. This happened over the course of eight lessons.
Procedure:
I had the students pick a advertisement from a magazine and then trace the major lines and shapes. I chose advertisements because the design is very clear and there is usually one focal point.
Once the lines and shapes were traced we did not look at the advertisement again. We transferred the tracing onto their paper. Students can transfer the lines on their paper by either using Saral Transfer Paper
or by rubbing the back of the paper with Ebony Pencils
and then retracing the lines with the tracing paper placed on top of the construction paper.
Students then filled in areas with some textures from bandages, paper towels, coloured wool, and paper lace doilies. They glued them down on the construction paper.
Lastly they added colour. First they had to choose which harmonious colours they were going to use. They were then encouraged to use ripped up coloured papers of those colours and to use coloured watercolour inks in the form of stamps, then spraying the colour with water.
They were allowed to use some glitter to highlight areas of their art.
