Phil Nelson's Cartoons

Phil Nelson

Phil Nelson is an amateur doodler who likes to draw pictures of himself frolicking on the beach. He taught himself to read by staring vacantly at Marvel comics and paperback collections of Peanuts. At the age of 6 he created a crude comic strip called Coconuts as a "rip-off" of and tribute to Charles Schulz. He attended the Philadelphia College of Art from 1983 to 1984 or 5 "when he was forcibly expelled by the students and faculty because they were all jealous." After despairing away in dank, sweaty, poorly-ventilated print shops for 20 years, he decided to try drawing again. He is still trying.

Coconuts can currently be viewed on the literary e-zine Mad Hatter's Review where Phil serves as Cartoon Editor. The home page for Coconuts Comics is here.
